The kind of folks at Luminosity, LLC sent us a new gadget to try out. It is called the Flush Light. The Flush Light is a bathroom night light built into the flush handle of your toilet. It has a soft red light which is activated with a simple press of a button mounted right on the handle. The light is just bright enough so you can see the toilet and the adjacent area without having to turn on the bathroom light. We all know how much a pain it can be to turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night when you need to go. You don’t want to make your eyes adjust to the light and completely wake you up. You simply need enough light to see what you are doing and that is it. The Flush Light is the answer. Also unlike other bathroom night lights which are plugged in to an electric outlet close to the floor or far away from the toilet this night light is mounted right on the toilet flush handle so you can see where you are going.

The Flush Light comes in a package with everything you need to install it; a 9-volt battery, the Flush Light (flush handle and flush level), and a clip for attaching the chain to the flush lever. Installation is super easy and I mean easy. I had this installed on one of the toilets in our house in a matter of minutes after opening the package. All you need to do is remove the toilet tank cover so you can see the existing flush handle and flush lever. Remove the old flush handle and flush lever. The Flush Light flush handle and flush lever is a standard replacement so simply install it in the same way you removed the old one. Then hook up the chain to the flush lever and put the toilet tank cover back in place. The last thing you need to do put the included 9-volt battery in the Flush Light. This is another cool feature. The Flush Light handle has a click release button at the bottom so you can remove the flush handle from the flush lever without having to remove the entire flush mechanism. This is great for replacing the battery and for cleaning. Inside of the battery compartment there is even a couple of FAQs. Nice touch!

Now installed here is how the Flush Light works. There is a little light on the handle and next to it is a small button. When not activated the light glows dimly. Just bright enough so you can see the light but not bright enough to light anything up. Then when you push the button on the handle the light glows bright red shinning a light downward towards the floor and toilet. The light is bright enough to see but is not so bright to the point where your eyes have to adjust. This is nice. So now you can see what you are doing. After you are finished you can go back to bed and the Flush Light will turn its self off. Simple as that.

There are a couple of minor issues. First if your toilet has a side mounted flush handle then the Flush Light will not work because the light will not be shinned into the actual toilet bowl. It will just light up the floor. Now there could be enough light to see but it definitely would not be an ideal solution. Since most toilets have the flush handle on the front this is usually not an issue. Also depending on where your front mounted flush handle is located and what type of toilet seat you have the toilet seat might block a bit of light when in the up position. This happened with my toilet but there is still enough light that I can see what and where I'm going. Other than that the Flush Light works great.

Overall this is one of the cooler gadgets we have seen in a while. It is simple but solves a very common problem. So stop shocking your eyes in the middle of the night with bright lights and stop missing the toilet because you do not want to turn the bathroom light on to see and get a Flush Light.
